Where and how do I post?
Characters are given a clear tablet that looks like this, which is locked to their bio-signature. All of their money will be transferred and handled via this communicator, kind of like Super Fantasy Apple Pay. It is also their window to the overarching network of new arrivals. The denizens of this world don't access this network even if they can, so feel free to talk about whatever you want here. The tablets can post text, video, or audio. They can be encrypted or hacked as desired, but money cannot be stolen from them.

What is the time ratio in game?
Hugtopia runs on a 1:1 time ratio. 1 IC day in game is 1 OOC day out of game. This makes it easier for everyone to remember!
Does Hugtopia allow noncon or dubcon?
Dubcon is allowed if both players give permission and have talked it out thoroughly ahead of time. However, dubcon results in a net zero for Dora and Positive Physical Contact, effectively cancelling itself out for things like AC Rewards.
Non-con is not allowed and will result in severe IC consequences: the offending character will be frozen by a sudden divine intervention and teleported to the closest temple where they'll remain frozen on display until authorities arrive to arrest them. They'll then be kept in jail for up to a week.

What happens when we drop a character or my character dies?
When your character is dropped, they disappear from the world along with any possessions they own that you don't want left behind. If the natives are asked about how this works, they shrug and say that the gods work in mysterious ways.
Moreover, death is possible in Aellyn, but it isn't permanent! If your character dies in Aellyn, their bodies will remain as corpses. Corpses are collected by the city's people to be disposed of humanely and respectfully and, while the natives no longer need them, they still remember the funeral rites from ancient times.
However, characters can be revived if the deceased character's CR goes to the deceased character's god of choice and begs for their revival. Offerings of items precious to your character or your CR can be given and the gods will listen to your emotional pleas. After seven days of praying and pilgrimage, your CR will be rewarded as your character is reformed from light atop your chosen deity's altar, pulled back together by the strength of your emotional bonds. The offered items will be destroyed in return and can only be regained through AC Rewards.
The first death requires 1 item. The second death requires 2. The third death requires 3, and so on and so forth.

What happens ICly when a character goes on an extended hiatus?
When you go on hiatus, you're welcome to handwave characters living as normal if you wish. However, if you need a reason for the character to be out of commission, the following can occur:
First, the character falls ill, suddenly and somewhat severely. Symptoms vary, but typically it begins as a fever, chills, or fatigue. If these symptoms are ignored characters may find their skin turning almost... translucent, as if they are fading from existence.
Before long, they are visited by an animal familiar of their assigned god, whom they will feel compelled to follow. This animal will guide them to the temple, at which point the priests will worriedly take the character in for treatment. They're not from this world, after all, so a lack of resonance with their surroundings is not a surprise. Further inside the temple are the personal and guest quarters of the priesthood, where ailing characters will be well cared for.
Characters are not imprisoned in the temple by any means, and they can receive guests if they wish, but they are encouraged to stay until they fully recover and be mostly quarantined. It's best not to allow an illness like this to spread.
The time it takes to completely recover from this illness is up to the player.

How do canon updates work?
You can canon update for canon memories or CRAU memories. Information on how to do canon updates is here. Fill in the form and comment to the post. ICly, when your character undergoes a canon update, they fall into a deep sleep for anywhere from three days to a week. During this time, the robots from their chosen god's temple will come to collect them and take them to the temple. Here, they wait until they wake up in a small room within the temple with their new memories and changes.
Characters are not strictly forced to be taken to the temple during an update period, and a non-violent disagreement from their fellows can result in the priests retreating to try again another day. However, it is highly encouraged for the health and safety of that character and those around them. Their condition may worsen while they remain away from their aligned temple, and priests worry that the illness might also be contagious. The effects are similar to a Hiatus-related illness (see below).
If another character is shown to be violent during an attempt to retrieve the updating character, the priests will either back off or (if said violence results in harm to someone), security will be called and the other character may be subdued via power-suppressant restraints. (Imagine handcuffs that cancel out magic and similar inhuman abilities.) Any character arrested would be taken to the local jail for a few days to cool off.
Additionally, if a character purchases a physical modification like an age up or down, whether or not they lose their modification in a canon update is up to the player. If you'd like to play with them aging up or down to their new canon point, you can have the characters change to their canon point age and then, within a few days to a week, having their modification snap back into place without needing to repurchase the modification. ICly, this would be because it takes awhile for the gods to reassert their power and realign the character to what they achieved after a realignment with their homeworld. If you'd prefer that they maintain their new age without any changes, you are free to do so.
Fatal and mortal injuries are not played out on the character's body, however. As when applying and entering the game, any mortal wounds are healed upon entering Havenwell. Instead, your character's body will show a scar or a healed wound instead of the injury itself. It will appear without causing trauma to the character's physical body.

Do I need to canon update if a character reveals their past knowledge or history in recent game events?
Formal canon updates in-game are not required when new canonical information about a character's history and/or circumstance is revealed, when the canon is ongoing. Assuming that the canon is historical only (eg. would affect the character's knowledge and traits, or expand on known personality, etc.), you can adopt that information into how you play the character as you please.
Canon updates are required under these typical circumstances: a) you are updating to a new canon point, or b) new canon has revealed new unique powers that would require mod review or approval. There may be other circumstances that would require updating, but that could be handled case-by-case.

How do Player Run Businesses work?
If you are interested in starting up a Player Run Business, first you must purchase it from the AC Rewards Page. Next, please head on over to the Player Run Business Index to register it. Here, you can also check what sort of businesses we already have, talk to owners if you'd like to work there, or set up your own. We require players to give us a description of their business and post it in a comment. Take a look at the page for more information.
If your character wants to run a gofer-type of business (such as a mercenary or person-for-hire) that does not require a physical location, then a Player Run Business Reward is not required. AC Reward bought player-run businesses are more for people who wish to buy and run a business out of a physical location. It covers things like rent, equipment, and the like. If your character is doing odd-jobs out of their home or just via request and does not require a physical location from which to operate and sell their services, then an AC Reward purchase is not necessary.

Are Test Drive Meme threads considered game canon?
That is entirely up to you and your thread partner. If you'd like to keep your TDM thread as game canon, you're more than welcome to do so as long as all parties involved agree!
What is the 4th-wall policy in regards to established mediums?
Since breaking the 4th wall can often be a sticking point (as well as being included on many a permission post) we figure it's best practice to use parody names rather than anything specific. So yes, analogous titles would be preferred, for the sake of everyone remaining on the same level.
That being said, it does give you some creative control over the parody version, so have fun with it!

How far forward or back can we forward-date or backdate something?
Backdating and forward-dating should be kept within reason to avoid continuity errors or interference with events. There is a little more flexibility regarding backdating, provided all of those involved are okay with it, however as much as possible we ask that you do not forward-date more than a week in advance.
Are multiple accounts allowed for the same character?
No. We ask that characters only have 1 (one) journal for the game, even if characters have several distinct personalities or personas. Instead, you could use differently keyworded icons to differentiate between each personality or persona.
Are responses to network posts stored and visible to everyone (unless locked or privated)?
Privacy is up to the characters involved and each thread can be either public or private as you decide. Comments on network threads are in the vein of most social network systems, like DW, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Once publicly posted to a public network, these comments are viewable to everyone unless marked as locked or private.
How do I add or block people on the IC network?
Tapping communicators to add friends works just like transferring Dora! Characters can also manually exchange information by typing it in. The network has most non-residents on display, as theirs is a little different from the native citizen network (due to not being built into their physical bodies). Usernames and personal information are not automatically added when a communicator is given to someone, so characters can choose whether or not their name is publicly shared. Contact may show up as "Unknown" or their contact number with no attached name if no username or personal information is shared.
You can block other people, but occasional system glitches might cause periodic or unwilling unblocks. This would be determined by the players themselves, so feel free to mess with this mechanic as you wish.

Activity Check, Rewards, & Points
Do things like arrows need to be bought as an ammo AC Rewards?
If your character is looking for regular wooden arrows or light aluminum arrows, those are likely available in world, although they probably aren't great quality since the natives don't really use weapons anymore. However, if they want higher grade arrows made of carbon or ones with any special abilities, they will need to grab those via AC Rewards. That said! Your character is free to bring in some arrows as part of their three items allowed at entry.
Does physical contact with our pets, animal companions, daemons, etc. count for AC Rewards or events?
Physical contact with pets and other creatures brought by players do not count toward AC Rewards or for events where physical contact is needed. ICly this is explained by the fact that the pets and other non-player creatures do not have affiliations with any of the gods. Contact with them then aids the planet, but its power is dispersed among the entire world, reducing its efficacy to near negligible levels. It can ease event symptoms, but cannot be used to remove event effects or circumvent events where physical contact is needed.
When physical contact is needed in an event or for AC Rewards, the contact must be between two player characters.
When physical contact is needed in an event or for AC Rewards, the contact must be between two player characters.
How many AC Points does it take to receive plants or flowers from home?
Non-magical plants, flowers, or seeds would count as a small item regain for 50 points. Depending on the size you could get a few as a single item (such as a package of seeds or a pot containing a few of the plants/flowers).
How do characters ICly request AC Rewards?
ICly, rewards are provided via the temple- they can be directly requested there, or mysteriously appear on site.
As noted on the AC/Rewards page: the characters will have a package delivered to them from their aligned deity's temple. The robots are remarkably good at delivering even oddly shaped or sized packages and they somehow always seem to find your character at an opportune moment when they're free and available. The character signs for the package and congratulations! Enjoy your gift from the gods - just don't ask how it got here because the natives honestly don't know.
Deliveries occur within a week after the gift arrives in the temple, unless it requires one more timely (such as food or living things). If a character frequents said temple, they may also be able to pick it up when they visit.

Are there any punishments if we don't hug each other?
Nope! But your character won't be earning money as quickly as other characters, and they may not be eligible for AC Rewards. Also, they'll continue to upset the balance of the world by refusing to have physical contact with anyone else, which means the world will keep sliding into chaos!
Does sparring or friendly fighting count toward punishments for grievous harm or negative physical touch?
Sparring and play-fighting that result in unintended injuries will have no negative consequences! Several characters already run sparring practice and, while they do not count toward AC Rewards, they do not constitute a crime or anything. Arrests and negative consequences are reserved for intentional harm done to another. Locals might be confused as to why the off-worlders like to beat each other up for fun, but as long as everyone is consenting, they won't be bothered.
Setting Details
The Daily Basics: Housing, Money, the Gods, etc.
What happens when my character arrives?
When your character arrives, they wake up wearing the clothes they were in when they were pulled from their world, carrying up to 3 items or animal companions with them. They wake up on a stone slab in a small room with a robotic humanoid looking down at them. After welcoming your character to the world, the welcome committee robot will hand them a communicator in the form of a clear smartphone-sized tablet and explain their dilemma. Then they will send your character into the city to find a home in the free housing area and start living their lives. After that, it's all up to you!
What types of physical contact work?
Any kind of positive physical contact works, none is valued more highly than the other. Hugs, snuggles, cuddles, handshakes, high-fives, sexy-times - it's all allowed. Any thread works counts for the Activity Check, but only threads where sustained positive physical contact happens is considered valid for AC Rewards. More information on this is available at Activity Check & AC Rewards.
Negative physical contact like fighting and hurting someone nets no rewards! If your character causes a significant disturbance to the peace, they'll be taken to jail for a night or two until they cool their heads, so beware. While in jail, powers unnecessary for life will be nerfed to prevent jail breaks. Consider it the gods' way of saying, "Please don't do that again. :( "

How does Housing work? Are there keys? How do we find empty houses?
Housing is mostly handwaved! When characters first arrive, they have access to free basic housing which consists of small townhouses with four bedrooms. Further descriptions of the basic housing can be found under Locations and Settings. There is an option to purchase larger, more luxurious housing as characters earn money. These purchases are also handwaved, so please exercise discretion!
When your character moves into a house, their tablet registers them as an occupant and becomes their key. These registries are uploaded to the city council and government, but are not available to access by citizens or characters as it constitutes a breach of privacy. There are no real estate agents in Havenwell because there aren't enough people to warrant that.
If a house is empty or for sale, the housing registry lists it as "unoccupied." The native citizens haven't moved houses in centuries, so they have no use for 'for sale' signs. If a character is interested in gaining access to one of the paid or empty houses to give it a look, they can register at the door as a 'visitor' and get access to a paid home for a few hours to look around. After which, they will be asked if they wish to buy it via a notification on their communicator. If they say no, they will be asked to vacate the premises. If they say yes, they will have their communicator keyed to the front door and the appropriate amount of Dora will be instantly subtracted from their accounts.
The construction of the houses are relatively similar to modern-day buildings, but with a focus on stone, concrete, or metal building supplies rather than wood. The inner walls of the housing units are drywall with stone or metal supports. The free housing walls are slightly thinner than those of the luxury housing, but none can be considered "paper-thin." That said, a good strong punch would definitely put some holes in there so be careful! Nothing in Havenwell is self-repairing, so if damage is discovered or reported in the free housing units, dora deductions will be automatically taken from the offending party's bank account and a repair droid will be sent. In the luxury housing, damage must be reported and paid for voluntarily in order to be repaired.
As for the layouts of the houses, most of the information can be found at the Settings page linked above. However, a 4-bedroom house could certainly have a second bathroom, though it could barely be called that in the basic housing, as they are not meant to be anything fancy. More of a closet with a toilet in it. You're likely to be fighting for the shower with your roommates in the morning! The expensive housing would have more elaborate full bathrooms, and you could find at least two in those homes.

How do we get food here? I have to eat! Tell me all about these replicators.
All food is produced from food replicators which can be a little janky since the natives don't need them. They've spooled them back up and tweaked what they can to get them working for all the flesh-bodied people though, so don't worry. On occasion, an ingredient or food might dispense that tastes slightly off, but don't worry, it's still edible! There are two types of food replicators depending on what type of housing you're in: Basic or Luxury.
But what if characters try to take apart or remove the replicators from the homes? Any attempts to "borrow" (AKA steal) a food replicator essentially destroys them. When pulled loose, a prismatic light will flash for a split second and fade away, and it will no longer work no matter how much care goes into reassembly or transportation. They are not built to be tampered with, and as residences belong to the city whether they are occupied or not, dismantling them is vandalism, stealing them is theft, and both are subject to an appropriate punishment.
If said dismantling does happen, most of it contains rather nondescript and common parts found anywhere else in the city. There is one part that stands out as unique: a crystalline core just inside, where the replicator connects to where it's installed. Any core you find is grey and lifeless, easily mistaken for garbage, however if you are caught with one, you are arrested on sight and charged for the above crimes.
Moreover, the synthetic fruits and vegetables cannot grow plants from their seeds. They're mostly there for show. And as for living organisms like yeast, the replicators cannot recreate them. There is, however, a synthetic yeast-like substitute that performs the basic function of yeast in baking. If you are ever curious about what sort of things the replicators can and can't reproduce, please feel free to ask a question below and we'll continue to add to this section!
Basic food Replicators only create raw ingredients unless upgraded via AC Rewards. It can make:
Luxury Food Replicators can create all the raw ingredients from the basic Replicators with some upgrades, and some prepared dishes.
It can make:
You can update the available ingredients, ingredient quality, and add dishes via AC Rewards as well!- Simple spices like: table salt, powdered black pepper, garlic powder, dried basil, dried parsley, powdered thyme, dried rosemary, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, etc.
- White flour, white sugar, canola cooking oil, white vinegar, margarine, cooking lard
- Egg substitutes, basic synthetic meats like chicken, pork, and beef, synthetic white rice and simple synthetic pastas like macaroni or spaghetti, white or yellow solid cheese (think Kraft slices or pizza mixes) or squeezable cheese whiz

- Blood substitute pills, synthetic "mystery" meats, or energy sources for robotic characters for those who need them
Luxury Food Replicators can create all the raw ingredients from the basic Replicators with some upgrades, and some prepared dishes.
It can make:
- Including simple spices, it can create more niche spices like: cinnamon sticks, whole fresh herbs, whole peppercorn, whole spices like nutmeg or coriander, cumin, kosher salt, Italian seasoning mix, all-spice, etc.
- White and whole wheat flour, canola and olive oil, white and flavored vinegars, balsamic vinegar, real salted butter, etc.
- Egg substitutes, more synthetic meats like lamb, turkey, or duck, synthetic white and brown rice and more varieties of synthetic pasta like fettuccine, linguini, etc. More varieties of cheese - bleu cheese, red cheddar, etc.
- Synthetic vegetables and whole synthetic fruits
- Synthetic milk, water, juices, tea leaves, ground coffee, carbonated brown cola or clear soda
- White bread, brown bread, jello, jellies, simple ice cream in two flavours (vanilla or chocolate)

Is alcohol available in the replicators?
Alcohol is currently only available through regains and upgrades through the AC Reward system or for sale at the cafe, Affurgato. It can also be found at parties and other such celebrations during events!
However, the replicators are able to make a synthetic alternative: Alcosynth! Enjoy all the flavor of your favorite alcoholic beverages without those pesky alcochol effects.

How do languages work in Aellyn?
By the gods' powers, everything the characters say is divinely translated into a common tongue that everyone can understand. However, you can play around with this if you like and have words be left untranslated in case there is no English equivalent or have characters verbal tics be left in their original language. For example, if you want your character to say Mr. Stark or Steven-kun, or if you want them to say that particularly devilish curse in Klingon, that's totally fine! We do ask that you keep foreign languages and scripts in your posts to a reasonable minimum, however, so that all players can read and enjoy. Try not to do an entire post in Korean or Elvish script, even if that's your character's first language.
For unspoken languages like sign language, how your wish to translate that is up to you! For ease of communication, we're fine if you'd like sign language to be translated into speech via the character's tablet or another method. Feel free to play around with this!

Tell me all about the communicators! What do they look like, how do they work, what can they do, how do I smash it?
The communicators in Havenwell are clear, hand-held tablets that are approximately the size of a large smartphone or a small tablet. They display video on their screens, play audio, and display text. A visual example of the tablet is here. These communicators are bio-signature locked to your characters so no one can steal them, and function as both your communication device, your house key, and your wallet. They all connect to a citywide network, but characters will notice that the native citizens rarely use it and few of them actually carry communicators at all. If asked about it, the natives merely shrug and say they have no use for hand-held devices when they themselves are robotic.
For characters who are blind, deaf, mute, or otherwise have difficulty with network devices, a full range of accessibility features are available. Speech to text, text to voice, raised print, lights that flash to indicate new messages, vibration notification and the like are all available for characters. The communicators have a full range of accessibility features, so your character shouldn't experience any major interactivity issues with the network.
Communicators can be lost, but since the native residents have no use for them, any communicator found around the city is usually returned to their owner one way or another. Players are welcome to decide for themselves how the device is found, and how long it takes; just because residents will return it if they find one does not guarantee that it will be found in a timely manner.
Communicators are also not indestructible! They are waterproof and damage-resistant, but can be broken if put under enough duress. A trip to your local repair shop can resolve any minor damages. You must return to your deity's temple for major damage or complete destruction of the tablets, and they will be replaced. Repairs and replacements do require payment, but it won't break your bank.
Some contents (such as photos, old messages, recordings) can be recovered from a destroyed device by retrieving the data card contained within- it acts as memory card and SIM card, and can take much more of a beating than the tablet itself. There is no guarantee that it will survive the damage or that your data will still be safe, so keep that in mind when a tablet is destroyed!
If you wish to transfer data from your character's personal handheld devices to the Havenwell provided communicators, it is possible! It might take some doing to find compatible hardware, depending on the device you're working with, but the city has a lot of tech from across generations, so you're free to assume they're available somewhere.
When a character is dropped, their name is no longer listed as an active contact in the communicators. Active characters can look at their history and see logs of call history, text messages, etc., but the name will be greyed out and cannot be sent anything new.

How does money (Dora) work in Havenwell? Can my character get a job here?
Money is gifted to characters by the gods in exchange for them having positive physical contact with someone else. At the end of the month, characters will find a lump sum of money electronically transferred to their communicators. Money is largely handwaved, but all characters who have some sort of physical contact with someone else (whether it is sustained or not) will receive a livable basic income. Those who get jobs, run businesses, or garner a lot of positive physical contact will, of course, earn more.
The unit of cash here is a non-breakable, electronic currency called a Dora. It cannot be hacked or stolen, and attempts to do so will land your character in jail for the night, so be nice! Also, please be reasonable with how much money your character earns in a month. We trust you!
For characters interested in earning more Dora through non-contact means, there are many businesses within Havenwell for characters to choose from. They can be anything from waitstaff to receptionist to researcher to entrepreneur to tailor and more! Players can also set up Player Run Businesses - buying a business requires an AC Reward purchase, so please head to the AC Reward Page. Feel free to handwave other jobs and earning money as much as you like. However, the amount of money your character receives from working is slightly less than they would earn from having physical contact with someone. A full day's work at a job would equate monetarily to be the same as a nice long cuddle session with a friend.
Dora can be transferred or gifted so long as you either know your friend's account or username code, or you can touch your device to theirs. You can anonymously donate if you like! As stated before, Dora cannot be hacked or stolen, however. It seems there is a code in place to keep money from being withdrawn without the owner's knowledge or consent. If you're giving it away though, there's nothing to stop you from putting money into an account.
Characters can try to refuse the dora from the gods by going to the temples and praying, but it is unlikely to have any effect. If a character does not wish to keep the dora they receive automatically, they can donate it back to their temples, other businesses, or other people by tapping their communicators together or setting up an online transfer. Just remember that dora is used as the in-world currency for anything bought or sold within Havenwell - other businesses like cafes, clothing, music stores, etc., reconstruction efforts, the VR cafes, non-replicated food, medication, etc. So giving away and refusing any and all payment could be detrimental to your character's ability to gain items!

What are the sun/moon/sky/weather phases like in Aellyn and Havenwell?
Aellyn is very much like Earth! It has one yellow sun, one moon that orbits the planet at the same rate as Earth's moon, and the moon's phases are the same as here. The weather, on the other hand, can be quite pleasant or quite crazy in Havenwell depending on what you need. In some parts of the city, it could be a pleasant sunny summer afternoon, while in another part they could be experiencing snow. The weather outside bleeds through randomly, so feel free to play with that! Outside of Havenwell, the weather is much harsher and prone to things like mega-storms, tornadoes, hurricanes, blizzards, and other such disastrous phenomena. It's not fun to be outside the gates.
You're free to handwave the weather to whatever you like or need it to be. A passing storm can be a great way to encourage a little contact as you share a single umbrella, for example. Any large scale disasters like flash floods or large earthquakes within the city are only done by mods though, so keep it small and localized please! Thanks to the characters' efforts, major scale disasters and the crazy unpredictable weather patterns have largely tapered off, but you're still welcome to have such a phenomenon happen to your character at any time. The world is still healing after all.
For those curious, there's nothing unusual about the night sky in Havenwell, although there is a lot of light pollution from the city so it's unlikely characters would get a clear view of a lot of stars or astronomical bodies aside from the moon.

What is the calendar system in Aellyn?
The daily calendar is the same - as in each month has the same number of days - as our world. The inhabitants stopped counting years centuries ago once they turned into robots because time no longer had any big meaning for them. They will start counting the years now that the offworlders are here though, so they call this Year 1. The months, however, are named as follows:
Aellyn Month | Earth Month |
Lasra | January |
Nalom | February |
Ainir | March |
Lasai | April |
Ealom | May |
Dianir | June |
Lasdia | July |
Achtom | August |
Ohnir | September |
Lasohm | October |
Malom | November |
Ranir | December |

The Nitty Gritty: NSFW & Other Specific Details
Can characters get pregnant or get STIs here? Let's talk about sex.
No, they cannot get pregnant or get STIs! The world is too tumultuous for babies, so the gods have deemed it inappropriate. They also want you to come here and help them, not get sick, so they're doing their divine thing and keeping pregnancies and any sexually transmitted infections off the table.
Havenwell doesn't have condoms immediately available, as it's primarily inhabited by robots with no need for them, nor is there a specific adult/novelty shop. Similar to the cafes, there isn't much of a supply without a demand. However, should the residents be made aware of such things being necessary, they'll be more than happy to provide.
Normal synthetic/plastic condoms can be requested and purchased easily enough within a week or so of a request being made - enough time to dig through the old archives and figure out how such things are created after so long. Once a shop is aware of the necessity, they'll try to keep a steady supply on hand. Anything fancier (like flavored or size accommodations), would need to be custom-ordered, but are likely doable within reason! Feel free to get creative; as long as it's made via synthetic materials, it can probably be done.
Sex toys of both solo and multi-participant variety could also be commissioned and requested at a local artisan's shop, depending on the type you're looking for. Simple ones could be made by a synthesist, vibrators or other electronic devices would require collaboration with a more mechanically-gifted shopkeeper. Price and availability are highly dependent on what you need, but unless it's something really fancy and specific, it can probably be done.

Do electronics from other worlds work with the power system in Havenwell?
Electronics from other worlds that don't required specialized fuel sources (nuclear, dilithium crystals, etc.) will work with the power system here! Plug your electronics into the wall and, while the charge time might fluctuate day to day, they'll keep working!
What do the natives know about the unnamed gods in the Archive records?
NPCs do not respond to questioning about any gods struck from the records, but will say that they only adhere to the four gods present within Havenwell and not "the lost ones." Unfortunately, natives do not know any more about them than the characters do at this point - or at least, they're not willing to talk about it right now.
Do corpses and skeletons exist in Havenwell?
The only corpses and skeletons people might find are from the animals in the zoos when they die, which is a rare occurrence but not impossibly difficult to find considering animal lifespans. If characters are interested in these corpses, they would need to get to them before the zookeepers took them away to be cloned or disposed of. Corpses of the monsters and creatures that invaded Havenwell in a past event are being stored within the research towers, but to gain access to those will require working with the scientists long enough that they trust characters to enter the higher level laboratories.
Can characters get involved in the local theater and movie productions?
Yes! At first, robot natives wouldn't think of offering auditions and roles to the flesh-bodied offworlders, but once interest is expressed, characters might find themselves pulled in 8 different directions as the directors vie to have them in their productions. It's unlikely they'd get any main lead roles as they'll have to contend with the struggle for fame like any other actor or actress. As something novel and new, the natives would love to see their saviors performing cameos or side parts in their movies. They will not put them in any action movies or anywhere that they may be in danger, however, because while robots can be repaired if a stunt goes badly, flesh-bodied people cannot.
Those who choose the road to fame will have to deal with the robotic filming schedule which is 24/7, 365+ days a year. As they have little else to do, the natives throw their all into their arts and don't require sleep. Productions on stage can often run 5 to 8 shows in a 24 hour period, and movie filming is constantly happening in the studios. Because of this breakneck speed to release new features, the production quality is not the greatest and they often recycle storylines and reboot old franchises in an almost Vaudeville-like fashion.

Do the gods accept physical offerings when not used to revive the dead?
The gods and temples are always open to adherents, their own or otherwise. And they will accept offerings, but they won't do much outside of looking pretty in the temples. Sometimes the priests will take them and sometimes the gods (some of them do really like shiny bits!) but it doesn't give the characters any sort of benefit or AC Rewards. If kept within the temple, they may be stored or repositioned by the priests, used as temple decoration of some kind. If enough people decided to do this, they might even create a corner of the temple dedicated to adherent offerings! It is unusual, however, and not a requirement for characters to prosper within the city.
What is Sildar ore?
Sildar ore is a secondary major component in what is considered "god metal", AKA the combination of metals that can channel the magic of their gods. It is part of the metal bodies housing the robots' souls, it is part of the food replicators, and it is woven into certain sections of the city wall to support the magical barrier surrounding it. By itself, it is not particularly magical or useful, though with the right combination of metals it has some mild magical containment properties.
Since it is more common than its rarer counterpart, Sildar ore has been known to be used to construct a variety of metallic items, such as tools, appliances, and sometimes jewelry. It is not particularly strong by itself, but is rather an enhancing ore that functions best when combined with other metals.
Sildar ore is bitter and unappetizing to taste, as one might expect from a rock. It can sometimes leave a weird little tingle on the tongue. Like licking a Switch cartridge.

Can you tell me more about the robotic natives?
For basic information on what the robot natives look like, please check the Settings page (see: What is Havenwell and who lives there?). For more detail, keep reading on.
Do the natives have souls? Yes! The natives do have souls! Those able to peer into the souls of others might see that they have a slight tint or shimmer to them, indicating that these bodies are nor their original forms. The soul is housed somewhere in their chassis, but it's hard to pin down one single location.
What about facial expressions and different voices? The robots do have expressive faces! Not as nuanced as a flesh-bodied face might have, but enough to glean how they might be feeling. There are a number of different models throughout the city, as the transition from flesh to metal spanned a few generations, and some might have upgraded while others were content with the body they started out in. Expressions can range from simple screened faces like Eve from Wall-E to a little more humanoid complexity like Sonny from I, Robot.
The residents have unique voices. Since their bodies are a combination of magic and technology, and their voices are sourced from their souls despite lacking lips or lungs, they carry their own individual voices as they remember from when they were alive. They are likely to sound a little tinny and synthetic, by nature of that sound coming from varying qualities of speakers, but it's no different from hearing someone's voice through a microphone. Because their voices come from themselves, they can be as expressive or emotionless as they are feeling at the time. Some have embraced their robotic nature more than others, but most are just looking to live their normal lives, and express themselves accordingly.

Application Rules: How To's and Eligibility
What kinds of characters do you accept?
We accept canon characters, canon au characters, original characters, fandom ocs with mod permission, and CRAU characters. We do not accept duplicate characters, unless said characters are significantly different from one another due to an AU or CRAU. These are handled on a case by case basis, so please contact a mod. We also do not accept real life people unless they are from a fictionalized version of history.
If you're not certain if your character is allowed, please contact a mod!
If you're not certain if your character is allowed, please contact a mod!
How do I get permission to app my fandom OC? What counts as a fandom OC?
If you wish to app a fandom OC, please be aware that your OC cannot have significant ties to any canon characters. So you can app your D&D or Warhammer OC, but not if they're Harry Potter's long lost sister or the Unmarried Protagonist's husband or Those Two Canon Characters' Kid. Within reason, we'll work with you so please contact the mods if you have questions.
However, player characters like Warriors of Light from FFXIV or protagonists from Persona games who don't have significant variation in their stories will be considered closer to a regular canon character application and we will only allow one of such character in the game at this time. Malleable protags from Mass Effect or Dragon Age who can have significant differences in their canon histories will be dealt with as AU Duplicates and can apply using the regular character application. If you are applying as an AU Duplicate, please label your character as such. For example, if we have a male Hawke from Bethany's route from DA2 in game already, but you wish to app in a female Hawke with a Carter route, please label your Hawke as "Hawke (AU Duplicate)."
If you decide to apply for a PC WoL especially, please give us background history on the character prior to the game and any in-game decisions that would be important. Otherwise, you can use the FFXIV wiki as a history link and apply with the regular character application.
If you wish to ask for permission to app a fandom OC, please PM the mod journal with the following information. A moderator will review your request, ask any necessary questions, and come back to you with a decision.
Fandom OC Character Name: the name of your character
Canon: their canon
Overview: a 500 word or less write-up that gives us a brief look into your character, what kind of fandom OC they are, what relationships (if any) they might have with any established canon characters, and their impact (if any) on the canon world

What are the player, cast, and character caps and why do you have them?
Our player cap is currently set a 60 players. We have a player cap because most of our mod team is new to modwork and we want to make sure we give you the very best experience we can as we learn the ropes of modding. Don't worry though! We expect to raise the player cap eventually and we will make announcements once we choose to do so. Thank you for your patience as we learn!
The current cast cap is 10 characters per cast. We include characters from the same universe as part of the same cast. A character from Marvel's Cinematic Universe, regardless of film, would be considered part of the same cast. However, a character from a Marvel comic or a Marvel comics based video game would ALSO be considered part of the same cast. Please be aware of these caps when reserving and sending in your application.
"Casts" refers to characters from the same universe. In this case, as long as each game is completely separate and unconnected from one another, they would count as separate canons, and therefore would be separate casts. (eg. Final Fantasy or Tales franchises share the same series, but are separate universes and thus separate canons.)
Each player can app a maximum of two characters when they first apply. If players wish to increase their available character slots, there are AC Reward Items available to do just that! For 150 points, a player can add a temporary character slot to their roster, specific to a certain character that does not raise the total character cap in game. For 300 points, a player can add a permanent character slot to their roster, allowing them to permanently apply for a third character. This raises the total character cap in game by 1. Please check the AC Reward Page toward the bottom for further details.

When can we app new canons?
We ask that you wait one month between a canon being released and your application being sent in to avoid spoilers for other players and mods themselves.
Can we use historical information/headcanon to fill in the blanks in our character's history?
This will be judged on a case by case basis. Using historical information or headcanon to fill in minor blanks might be acceptable (such as small quirks supported in canon or discussing childhood when it isn't broached in canon), but larger blanks that have a larger influence on the character's personality and life might not be. We'll need to know the character and what sort of information you're hoping to use that isn't represented in canon in order to make a more informed decision. Please contact a mod if you're concerned or curious about whether or not your use of additional information or headcanon is acceptable.
In your application, please clearly demarcate what is canon and what is headcanon if you choose to fill in any blanks.

Is there a limit on the number of CRAU memories?
Not currently! There's no limit as long as the character hasn't become drastically different (straying into canon AU or OC territory) from their canon selves and you can demonstrate what changes they've gone through via the CRAU history. We do ask that your CRAU history doesn't get Tolkien-levels of length though. Bullet points to help us quickly and easily understand will really help.
Do you allow screenshot LP (Let's Plays) for a history section?
While a screenshot LP would help us understand the canon better, we would prefer a summarized history of your character as your actual history. You can include the screenshot LP so we can judge your written history in comparison, but it won't be able to substitute for the history section as it's just too long for us to read through to understand your character.
How do re-apps work?
For those reapping characters previously in Hugtopia, please apply as a CRAU if you wish for them to retain their memories and experiences from their previous time in the game. In your application, please list any significant development or character relationships gained while in Hugtopia under the CRAU section. Any points earned or AC rewards gained in the character's previous stay are lost upon reapp unless there are extenuating circumstances, which must be discussed with the mods beforehand. You will need to make a new AC comment once accepted.
If we get revision requests, can we post them even if apps have closed?
Yes. If you receive a revision request, you have 3 days from receipt of the request to post your revisions regardless of when the apps close. For example, if you receive your revision request on the 8th, you have until the 11th to post your revisions, even if apps close on the 9th.
Is there a minimum age for a character being apped?
There is no hard minimum age, but we ask that characters apped are capable of independence - i.e. they shouldn't need a parental figure or adult supervision in order to survive normal daily life.
Items, Animals, & Powers
Can I bring an animal friend with me?
Yes, you can! As long as it's canon that your character has that animal, you are free to bring it as one of your three items allowed from home or from a previous game. Please don't randomly give your character an animal companion if there is no basis for it in canon. Try to keep animal companions small, being no larger than a large dog like a Great Dane. Any larger animals than that will be shrunk to the size of a large dog. If you want an animal to be one of your three items, seek mod approval first by talking to us over at the Mod Contact Page!
Animals like Pokemon are considered weapons, but they also fall under the animal companion rule. For Pokemon, characters can bring up to three Pokemon which takes up the equivalent number of item slots. Pokemon are also subject to the size rule, however, so please be aware of that when choosing your team! If you have any questions, please contact a mod.
Moreover, sapient/sentient animal companions are allowed. However, they are only allowed to understood by their owner. For example, a talking owl would only be able to talk with its owner. Other characters would just hear oddly timed hoots. This does not apply if your character is itself a talking animal (like RedXIII from FF7 or Morgana from Persona 5). If you are not sure if your animal companion falls under the sentient rule, please contact a mod before applying.

What happens to my character's powers?
Your character is free to keep their powers! If they are a CRAU and learned powers in their previous game, they're free to keep those as well if you would like. You can also have them lose those powers if you'd like. Any game-breaking or world or reality shifting powers will be nerfed to a more manageable level. You are also free to say your character loses their powers when they come to Havenwell by virtue of the gods being not entirely perfect in their transfer of characters from world to world.
What kinds of items can we bring?
You can choose to bring up to THREE (3) items with you when your character arrives in Aellyn. These items can be anything they had on their person at their point in canon not including regular clothing and accessories worn. For example, your character could bring their weapons, armor, magical items, or animal companion. Your character CANNOT bring a vehicle with them or any animal larger than a large dog (think Great Dane sized). Magical items that are worn count as one item (for example a magical cloak instead of a regular jacket).
Items that require other accessories in order to function (aka headphones + music player + charger, or a laptop + its charger cord) would be considered one item. A bow and its quiver (or finger tab, arm guard, etc.) would be considered one item, but ammunition (bullets, arrows, etc.) would require an AC Reward regain. If a weapon has ammunition preloaded (such as a gun with a full chamber or clip of bullets), this is considered a single item. Additional bullets or magic bullets, however, would need to be one of the 3 items brought, or regained as an AC Reward.

Do you limit things like hammerspace in regards to the three item rule?
Hammerspace (bags of holding and the like) are limited in Hugtopia. Your infinite void will be reduced to 10 spaces for inorganic (non-living) items, with the potential to gain more slots via AC Rewards. Each item within your hammerspace is considered a single item and falls under the rule regarding 3 possessions at the time of application, and will otherwise be emptied. Feel free to re-acquire lost items through AC Rewards, or fill it with items acquired in game.
Can my character bring in a non-magical, non-weapon item that they need for mobility?
So long as the item is on their person at their point in canon, it is not a weapon and possesses no magical qualities, they can bring these items free of charge. For example, a character with a limp can bring in their non-magical cane, or a character with a regular prosthetic eye or limb can bring those in without them being subjected to 3 item rule. If the eye has lasers that shoot out of them, they'll either need to be disabled (with the ability to turn the lasers back on via AC Rewards) or will count as one of their three items.
Character Specific Details
My character is dead or a ghost, what can I do?
When they arrive in Havenwell, they'll be gifted a real live body again! Enjoy being not dead and not undead either. Eat some food, smell a flower, hug a friend, relearn that the bathroom is a thing you need to do, just have fun with it! However, your character must be brought in the body they last had at their canon point, so you cannot de-age or age up your characters or otherwise change the bodies they canonically had at that point.
My character is an unfeeling robot already, what can I do?
They can either be granted divine power to feel OR be given a humanoid body - it's up to you. This is a process the gods can only do to off-worlders so many of the denizens of this world will be quite fascinated by your new ability should you choose to reveal to them that you used to be a robot, too.
My character is terminally ill or was mortally wounded, what can I do?
You can choose to have your character magically healed of all injuries and diseases upon entering Havenwell, OR have the progression of their disease halted permanently. Any mortal wounds will automatically be healed. Lost limbs that were not part of a mortal wound, however, cannot be regained in this manner.
My character is a vampire or needs to feed on blood/people to survive, what can I do?
Your character can either ask really nicely of the other characters here, OR you can have the replicators create what your character needs to survive in the form of gel pouches, pills, or cleverly disguised cuts of meat.
My character is the size of the Empire State Building, what can I do?
Your character will be shrunk down to a more manageable maximum size of 7 feet tall.
My character is a talking animal, what can I do?
Keep on keeping on as your rad animal talking self! As long as the character has a demonstrated personality and history, you can app it. But people won't be automatically granted the ability to understand your character's speech so if your character says "Pikachu" in canon, it'll still be saying that here. Have fun trying to find that Tim Goodman who can understand you through the power of heart. Or telepathy. One of the two.
My character has really problematic powers for physical contact, what can I do?
You're free to have your character deal with the consequences of those powers, OR have them nerf or lose those powers when they arrive in Havenwell. The gods need physical contact, so they're going to do everything within their power to make sure it can happen pleasantly for everyone involved.
My character is inclined to choose a god against their nature, how would the gods react to that?
Characters are free to devote themselves to whichever god they like! However, some gods are going to be more chill with your character using their good name to do evil than others. Rawna, for example, might see the logic in pretending to be one thing and doing another, while a god like Diacht would find it abhorrent. It's up to players to check into the lore of each god and make sure their actions wouldn't go against the core principles of each deity. Should they find themselves acting diametrically opposed to those ideals, characters will begin to get subtly nudged toward a god more in line with their true nature. They might find that their roads lead toward a different god's temple or that the people around them are more tuned to the other god than their chosen one. You're free to play with this as you like!
My character is a Persona user, how do their powers work here?
Characters can keep their Personas in the game! They'll have access to them everywhere in Havenwell so they don't need to wait for the Midnight Hour or the Metaverse or anything of that sort in order to summon their Persona. However, they are limited to a single Persona when entering the game (and their Persona's abilities should be listed under the "Abilities" section of the application). For Wildcards, they have the ability to regain more Personas via AC Rewards.
My character is missing a sense (deaf, blind, etc.), can it be healed upon acceptance?
If your character has lost a sense due to injury AND the injury is fresh, the injury itself will be healed. However, old injuries or non-injury related sensory losses will not be healed upon acceptance. The healing clause is meant to stabilize characters who are in mortal peril, but it cannot return what has been lost.
My character is a Transformer, can they still transform?
Yes, they can! However, due tot the size constraints in the game, your character will only be able to transform into tiny versions of their vehicle forms. They'll be about the size of Power Wheels, the small electric cars made for children to ride in.
My character needs an anchor or some other large object (like a tower) to survive, what can I do?
For an issue like this, you have some options. If said connection would make it difficult to play a character, you're welcome to dim or remove the effect entirely. If you want to duplicate the effect, then instead of a "tower", your character could find that the temple of their aligned god provides a similar connection.
The maximum distance that the character can move away from their temple is up to you. Also, if they find themselves too far from the temple and/or unable to make it back for whatever reason, then physical contact with another person aligned with their god might help with any discomfort.

How do I deal with a D&D spellcaster's abilities?
For D&D spellcasters, we asks that you list their spells, spell slots, and components in the power section of your application (a link to an external list is fine). Rampant spellcasting is nerfed to those your character can find components for (if necessary), but we generally allow handwaving for this so long as you stay within reason. The world is low on resources (both plant and animal), so finding a large load of powdered roots might be hard right off the bat, but could be gathered over time. Spells that would allow a character to leave the city or are otherwise game-breaking would not be allowed. They could Dimension Door within Havenwell, for example, but not use it to escape outside the walls.
My character doesn't have a physical body, can I still app?
Characters must have a single physical body in order to enter the game. For an emergent consciousness based from a neural network or internet based distributed entity, they would require a single body before apping (consider Jarvis the AI vs Vision the person). Additionally, they cannot transfer bodies or leave a physical body at will if that is a power they possess (aka no transferring into the communicators or transferring consciousness from one physical body to another).
My character is possessed by someone else/a demon/another person, what can I do with that?
Whether you wish to keep the possession as part of your character or separate the possessing spirit/persona is up to the player's preference! You could have your character severed from the possessing entity upon arrival or, if you desire, app them together as two-souls-one-body sort of deal, provided both personalities were represented in your app and sample. The two characters combined into one would be considered 1 character for the purpose of apping and character cap.
If someone else wanted to app the possessing entity into the game seperately, we could discuss further on how to handle it and separate the two. Please contact the player AND the mods if this is the case as all parties need to be in agreement as to how to handle this very unique situation.

It's mentioned in the setting page that there are libraries and reading circles. If books and paper are rare, then are they in digital form like downloading as e-books or audio books?
What kind of books Mu will find? I imagine it's going to be a lot of sci-fi books, mythology of the Gods, technical machinery stuff, mechanical to repair robot types of books? What Mu is looking for specifically is medical books for humans?
There is a botanical garden, so I was wondering would there be a book about plants with medicinal use and also poisonous as well? I would think there are scientists that has studied these plants and wrote textbooks about it.
Also, I would like to know what's in the museums? What he would find in there? Ancient relics of the planet's past? Animals that have been long extinct and put on display? Likewise, is there art museums with paintings (painted by the robot locals) well?

Books are produced and sold on electronic tablets with a paper-like texture to their screen. You swipe left or right to turn the page and top the upper corners to bring up the chapter menu or go back to the front cover. Each tablet will house either a single standalone book or an entire series of books if it's a serialized run. These and other books like them are on sale at the shops or shelved at the libraries. With true pulp paper being rare and expensive, books made of them are generally reserved for private collections of the wealthy or in the city's climate-controlled archives which are currently strictly off-limits to any but the archivists.
There are no medical texts about homo sapien humans present anywhere in Havenwell. As the flesh bodies of whatever species originally lived here has long been replaced by the robotic forms, such information has been lost or archived and forgotten in favor of information on how to upgrade and maintain the metal ones. The types of books Mu will likely find at shops and libraries are mainly for entertainment value, and run the gamut from pop culture and fiction novels to basic information on the gods of the nature like what you might hear at the temples to repair manuals for the robotic bodies and information on household DIY electronic projects for the native citizens to tinker with.
There are texts about the plants of Aellyn, but none of them are released to the public. These are mainly academic papers about conservation and proliferation that are kept within and passed among the research centers to help with their conservation efforts - things like improving current cultivation or preservations methods, breakdowns of the plants' genetic makeups, and notes on suitable habitats and how to replicate them. The conservatory's botanical garden has plaques with labels next to all of the more mundane plants that don't need extreme protection that give blurbs about their history and typical uses prior to the fall of the world. A very generic example would be something like: "Rose: a decorative garden flower treasured for its scent." Rarer plants are kept away from the public until the researchers can stablize their growth and ensure that they won't go extinct. Whether a plant has a medicinal or harmful effect, however, is not relevant to their interests so they do not note this information. The researchers care about saving all plant life and do not differentiate.
Museums range from art to "history" museums which feature works like sculptures and paintings from the old days, ancient relics of a time when flesh bodied people were still around, the first prototypes of their robotic bodies, early inventions whose purposes are lost to time, or taxidermied or holograph versions of extinct animals and plants. The relics are typically mundane - things the denizens no longer need but find fascinating, like electronic hair curlers, toasters, farming equipment, etc. The history museum is more like a shrine to a past no longer lived than an actual informational guide to Havenwell's development as a city. The robot natives like to come to these museums to point at things like toothbrushes and reminisce about what a pain it had been to brush their teeth twice a day or lament how they no longer have farmland to tend.
Art museums feature digital art on digital canvases that are done by natives - most of them portray the city, whimsical modernist art or surrealist depictions of the citizens and the city itself. Occasionally they will have images of things that don't exist in the city like green pastures or beaches, and sometimes you can see a paintings of mundane things like a shoe on a blank white canvas and nothing else. The paintings change often and it seems like there isn't any agreement on what constitutes "art" since most people in Havenwell have limitless amounts of free time to devote to their hobbies.
As an aside, if Mu wants a book on human anatomy or on medicines, he can request one as an AC Reward or try to make friends with the researchers and try to learn about the plants of Aellyn in more depth that way. The plants here are close to Earth plants, but many of them have strange properties. For example, the rose is said to have a sweet scent - but rather than smelling like a rose as we know it, it smells faintly of potpourri and honey.

Theoni and I were wondering if, while working together, Pyra and Aerith could attempt to learn more from the pointessia that was brought from the outside barrier a while back? From Aerith's app regarding her nerf'd ability: "ability to commune with the Planet. Strange planet, perhaps the sounds are garbled? Perhaps she is rendered deaf to it's calls until certain times (at the mods discretion)"
So, we were wondering if, with Pyra augmenting this ability of Aerith's, if Aerith could somehow "hear" what this flower would have to say? Like if there's a clue to it surviving in the harsh environment outside, or when it came to be, or if someone initially planted it, or nothing at all, that sort of thing! They're just going to try, though.
(Sorry if this should be on the event/player plot suggestions instead, it just didn't seem like a plot-plot so I thought about asking about it here!)

Similarly, the flower brought in from the barrier would struggle to understand the questions asked. It doesn't necessarily know why it's alive or what allowed it to grow, simply that it found a way to survive and adapt to the harsh environment. It wouldn't know the difference between the outside world and the barrier town, only that life is easier now. It might convey the memory of howling wind, the stomping feet of the skeletal beast it rode on, or a flowery equivalent of a shrug and the sentiment of, "life finds a way."
When asked what it needs to thrive, whether here or outside where it came from, two particular thoughts from the flower would include a need for the rich soil it grew in from seed to stalk, and a powerful hunger for bones.
